A pair of high-end HiFi speakers - Tannoy DC10A

Due to a move abroad, I am selling my pair of Tannoy DC10A in excellent condition.

The Tannoy Definition DC10A floorstanding speaker uses a 25 cm Dual Concentric coaxial driver with 5 cm aluminum dome tweeter and Pepperpot waveguide. This prestigious loudspeaker impresses both by its size and by the breadth of the soundstage it is able to produce on any type of recording. It demonstrates Tannoy's mastery of the coaxial driver, the transducer of choice for the English brand for decades. As a reminder, the coaxial loudspeaker combines two drivers in a single one, one for the bass-midrange and the other for the treble, with the tweeter housed in place of the former's core cover. The result is exceptionally coherent sound.

This loudspeaker is extraordinary in many respects. First of all, the pair of magnets used is made from a mixture of aluminum, nickel and cobalt: in other words, it's an Alnico magnet. Discerning audiophiles know how legendary this alloy is in Hi-Fi, what its dynamic properties are, and how Alnico remains the preserve of top-of-the-range productions. Motorized in this way, the 25 cm cone and 5 cm dome deliver a perfect transient response from 28 Hz to 22 kHz. High-frequency diffusion is optimized by the use of a waveguide housed at the heart of the tweeter's aluminum dome.

The passive crossover of the Tannoy Definition DC10A uses rigid OFC copper cables and in-house components, all of which have undergone a short cryogenic treatment to stabilize operation. A rare and surprising treatment, but one that clearly proves its worth in listening. To minimize degradation of the electrical signal, Tannoy has opted for a 2nd-order filter, with attenuation slopes of 12 dB per octave. The transition range between the two transducers is around 1.1 kHz, which says a lot about the performance of the tweeter used. Naturally loaded by the driver cone, the tweeter "descends" relatively low. The driver is immersed in a large volume of air (103 liters), tuned in bass-reflex by two large-diameter circular vents. The cabinet is made of birch plywood, with a natural wood veneer. There's also a ballast cavity for adjusting bass performance by adding sand, for example. The Tannoy Definition DC10A floorstanding speaker is equipped with a bi-amplification terminal block and an additional screw terminal for speaker grounding. Finally, the Tannoy Definition DC10A is fitted with a steel stand with decoupling spikes, to isolate it from the ground and potential vibrations.
